4. Symbols and symbol sets
Devices (switches, socket-outlets, luminaires, distribution board…) are shown on the drawing by symbols. The symbol identifies the device both on the drawing and in the take-off.
Built-in symbols
All built-in symbols can also be viewed, with pictures and searchable, on the public Electrical symbols page. The toolbar arranges them in groups; the groups can be collapsed, the search also finds matches without accents, and the bar can be narrowed to icon-only mode.
| Group | Examples |
|---|---|
| Switches | one-way, two-pole, two-circuit, two-way, intermediate, push-button |
| Socket-outlets | socket-outlet, double, protected (IP44), three-phase |
| Lighting | ceiling, wall, fluorescent, recessed, emergency luminaire |
| Distribution | distribution board, equipotential bonding bar, junction box, lightning protection down conductor, earth electrode |
| Low-current | bell, telephone, TV, data (RJ45), satellite TV, door entry phone, camera, alarm keypad and siren, Wi-Fi, network cabinet, loudspeaker |
| Sensors | motion, smoke/heat, alarm PIR, opening detector, thermostat, water detector, CO detector |
| Fixed connections | cooker, water heater, air conditioner, boiler, gate opener, oven, hob, cooker hood, dishwasher, roller shutter motor, fan, underfloor heating |
| Energy | solar panel, inverter, battery storage, EV charger, heat pump |
Device properties
For a selected device, the following can be set in the right-hand panel:
- the symbol (can be changed), the label and the mounting height (empty means the symbol's default);
- the circuit the device belongs to (except for the distribution board);
- the rotation;
- the catalogue item: by default the item set on the Symbols page; the Another item… search overrides it, Reset to default reverts it. This decides as which item the device goes into the take-off and the quotation.
A wall-mounted symbol can only be placed next to a wall; ceiling and free symbols can be placed anywhere.
Symbol set by country
With the symbol set selector in the top bar, you can choose per project which country's drawing tradition the symbols follow (Hungary is the default; also Austria, the Czech Republic, the United Kingdom, Poland, Germany, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia). The choice applies to the drawing, the printout, the legend, the quotation and the DXF.
Currently, real, distinct drawings exist for the Hungarian (IEC), the German and Austrian, and the British families; the other countries show the base drawing for now.
Legend
The legend is automatic: it lists only the symbols and line types actually used, and it appears on the printout and in the drawing set.
Custom symbols
If a symbol is not in the set, you can add a custom symbol at the bottom of the Symbols page:
- New custom symbol: name, group, mounting (wall / ceiling / free), mounting height, default catalogue code.
- The drawing is given by uploading an SVG file. Simple elements (line, polygon, rectangle, circle, text, simple path) are supported; if the file contains more than this, a yellow warning tells you what the program left out or changed.
- The custom symbol appears in the toolbar at the end of its group, marked “(custom)”, and works on the drawing, in the take-off, in printing and in the DXF.
In a shared project, the owner's symbols apply. The administrator can also add a “shared symbol”.
